An idea to save journalism

So I tried coming up with 10 completely original ideas to save journalism. At first, I thought of the idea of a print publication that included videos and audio built right in. After laughing at myself for a second, I came to one idea that I think could become a real possibility. What if major news sites, like the New York Times and the Boston Globe, added a link to a completely separate site to their masthead. Upon clicking, the reader would be taken to a site that is almost entirely run by the average citizen. News is always happening and trained journalists can only be in so many places. If someone is walking down the street and news happens right in front of him or her, anything from a car accident or a random act of heroism, they could post about it on the Boston Globe’s citizen page. It could be called “Boston by Bostonians” (or something much catchier). The implication of such a site would provide more jobs as well. The Globe would need a team to be ready for stories to come in. When a story is posted, an editor must read it and fact check as quickly as possible.
